Let's face it, Microsoft can't compete. It won't be long before they kill off their whole mac unit. Who needs their crappy software anyway? When some little known Russian software company can do in months what Micrsoft can't do in years it's obvious where this is going. VMWare will come out with a better virtualization technology and Windows will continue to become irrelevant. iWork needs a spreadsheet and you'll be hard pressed to find a reason to run anything Microsoft on your mac.
I said it before on these posts and got laughed to scorn, Microsoft is dead. Everyone knows it. Even die hard Windows fanboys are starting to have doubts. Vista will fail miserably and the company will be broken up. Why anyone would use something second rate, more expensive, less secure, and of inferior quality in the light of such a polished and mature operating system is beyond comprehension.

I think I'm missing something re: getting the new iPod software for my 5G iPod. I installed iTunes, and it tells me that mine is up to date with version 1.1.2. Is there a separate download that I'm missing?

Why dont you just build a webpage and then send everyone a link? Just like the spammers do.
we thought of that and for our first email I think we might do just that. but we would rather do it this way so that it would better suit or needs. this is a mass email that we send out to people that sign up on our emailing list. we want to create something where it gives people updates for stuff we are doing every month, and everything would correlate back to our website we are working on. idealy we are going to have a printed news letter, an enews letter, and our website with all three fulfilling different needs.
here are some examples of what we are wanting to do.

Lee, I'm sorry... but the definition of 'sensational' is not the same as 'anything Lee disagrees with'. Would you call the thread started today by rdowns called "Mike Huckabee... and American Dick" sensational? How about the one called "Wisconsin Public workers stand up to Republicans." I find that one pretty sensational. Grow up.
May I also ask why you're not confident enough with your own views to answer the poll? Also, what exactly is 'innacurate' with my thread?
And yet I'm the guy you refuse to talk to?

Can anyone recommend a cheap - but passable (hotmail and yahoo accounts don't work with this) email provider?
Why? I need a dummy account I can use in online signup forms so that all spammers send there, instead of my real account.
Boy, it'd be nice if DOTmac would provide something like this - a 'shadow' account.

Hi,
for all the guys "needing, wanting, must have" the SSDs, read this:
I'm using a SSD (256GB) since over a year (almost two now) in my MacBook and one in another machine since almost a year and they didn't fail yet :-) .... and a good backup is always a must, no matter if you have SSD or HD. I had plenty of HD fail on me - backup is a must no matter what. And as always: do some research about the brand and if possible the model you buy, that will reduce the risk of failing a lot (true for SSD and HD).

I wouldn't be able to say how much capacity you need, however, large hard drives are pretty cheap so I'd probably get a bit more than you think you need. Remember there's no need for a fast HDD, maybe something like a WD caviar green?

Your best bet is probably an open-source calendar script (http://sourceforge.net/search/?type_of_search=soft&exact=1&forum_id=0&group_id=0&atid=0&words=php+calendar&Search=Search) - take a look at those and see if anything comes close.
I'd guess you wouldn't find too many broadcasting specific ones given that most folks in broadcasting are for profit and that the public access/community stations are pretty limited in resources.
Thanks for the suggestion! We ended up tweaking an open-source calendar, and the system seems to work well for me. Hopefully the rest of the folks at the station will like it too. If not, you'll hear from me here. :)

I have a IOGEAR MiniView Micro 2-Port USB PLUS KVM Switch with Built-in KVM Cables and Audio Support, Model "GCS632U" for $50 from newegg.com
It works great by switching between the PC and Mac with the scroll lock key. The cables make it rather bulky and takes up space behind your desk. Your PS2 keyboard and mouse plug into the switch via a USB port on each computer. Sound works great too.

Here is a screen capture showing the disk image in the middle, the get info screen to the left, and Disk Utility to the right. Note that Disk Utility shows three external drives. Right now I have zero external media plugged in. Not a flash drive. Not an external hard drive. Not even a CD.

That would be great indeed! There's a Safari extension that does that, but it's terrrrribly bad and it doesn't really work either. Safari extensions are all cr*p.

Yeah I don't think so. Unless you scale it to an exact multiple, it's going to look like crap.
With subpixel anti-aliasing (how OS X does it now), it will scale well to any size. Naturally it will get a little blurry, but it depends how you define "look like crap" as to whether it will be acceptable or not.
The real problem is that this antialiasing is an expensive operation. Maybe they can do it all on the GPU now...but they're going to have to cache those pictures somewhere. This why its a good thing that # of cores are going up and memory is getting cheaper, we will be using lots more of each when we turn on all the candy in 10.5

I was hoping that having a render going would be sufficient to tell the system that the computer is in use and do not sleep.
Is there something else that will?

This is a really short sighted and black and white viewpoint.
1. Even games that are better with physical controls can be implemented to still be fun on the iphone. Sure, they probably are just going to be ports over from other devices (hey, let's see if we can pick up a few more sales), but they still are fun to play (I've played Assassin's Creed and Prince of Persia on my phone. Both are fun and easy to get over the only having a virtual joystick).
2. Shortsighted because this completely ignores the fact there are many games that you really don't need physical buttons or the gameplay is actually better using something else:

The version that Apple hosted on their website was pretty poor quality back in the day when bandwidth was low and a 28.8Kbps modem was the norm.
I've never come across anything approaching "high" quality. If anybody does, I'd love to know too.
I know the original Apple hosted video (just to show how bad it was) is on archive.org but I can't locate it right now

It makes sense. A lot of rumors have hinted that the iPhone will debut with Cingular, but a lot of the good phones end up showing up with T-mobile a short time after launching on Cingular.

Is it unresponsive indefinitely?
Plug it in and then don't touch iTunes for a minute or so, don't click anything. After a minute, then start clicking away. Does it work then?

I have a 08 iMac and a new MBA. I use my MBA 95% of the time. Having a iPad and MBA seems more odd then a iPad and iMac. Since you are getting a free ipad I would consider pairing it with the iMac. My 2nd choice would be the Ipad+MBA+24" Dell display. Again this is just personal preference and it is really what you want :D

See this (http://www.tuaw.com/2006/09/12/how-to-back-up-your-music-using-itunes-7/)
Thank you very much. I see they did everything they could to hide this feature from me, putting it in the file menu which should have been the first place I looked.
How embarrassing to begin posting on this forum with such a stupid question. Oh well. I hope your answer is helpful to others as well. Now, where is that spindle of DVD's...

Realized yesterday that I took too long... lost 225 bucks CAN because of my stupidity..... I hate that system
Since you order online, they could have taken it off already instead of having to mess around with their UPC codes and forms... anyway, my fault
Did you call them? If not, you should just to see if there's any other recourse.
Obviously, there's no reason to just let the money go if you don't have to.
