I've seen a similar thing happen once. Circumstances were a bit different though because I received a Word document that displayed the text substitution you are seeing. The client was using a scientific font on their PC. They were able to save documents as PDF so I could see what was supposed to be there. I then purchased a corresponding font for the Mac and duplicated what was depicted in the provided PDF.
Adobe Acrobat only embeds valid fonts. I suspect the font being used to generate the PDFs is a bit wonky (not Adobe or Postscript). I suggest replacing the font and making certain that the option to include the font is enabled.

App store review is not a beta test service. Apple decides if the app is suitable for the app store. If it crashes or has obvious severe bugs they will reject it. If it violates one of their written or unwritten rules they will reject it.
You want your app to work well not because of the app store review. You want it to work well so people will like it and buy it.
Frankly I wouldn't worry about it too much. Aside from abiding by the rules there's not much you can do about it.
Certain things are tested automatically when you submit the app. I think this is mainly inspection for use of private APIs. If you violate that you hear about it within a few minutes.

Man, I feel like I have the worst luck in the world. I followed this story (on another thread) when it initially started, in response to the Time Warner iPad app. When I saw that the optimum one became available I instantly knew I would be setting myself up with this. However, I slacked and waiting to download the app. Now I'm left with no option but to use it on a jailbroken iPad, (which is fine because I have a JB'd iPad1). But this means I won't be able to use it on my iPad 2, until it is jailbroken. Sigh...

Wow, a website that gets millions of hits had a small glitch. How dare they. The bastards.
Sorry, but you are quite mistaken. It is clearly a conspiracy!

But see, these images are never being scaled up beyond their original size- they are being scaled DOWN. That is the difference. We are talking about scaling things UP. Have you ever had an old OS 9 icon in your dock? When you magnify it, it looks like crap.
Understand that web designers tend to manage graphics pixel by pixel. Once you start stretching pixels in images across pixels on the screen, everything goes to crap. All you've got to do to see this is turn on your zoom feature.
The point is that scaling up so something is visible is better than having it tiny because the pixels are so small. Yes, low res images will appear "blocky" much like when you bang into a wall in an FPS and see the texture close up, hopefully this will lead to web designers using higher resolution images by default as bandwidth/processing power goes up, much like FPS designers use higher resolution textures now in their games.

Maybe they'll make a patch to make diddy kong the glorious game it once was....strip out all the gimmiky DS stuff.
I'd like to see scalable games take advantage of both and let you play and move save files around. To me that'd be the top thing....so I could play a season on Fifa (if the Wii ever gets Fifa or Winning) and then take it on the road with me too..all games count towards my overall season...not two different seasons going. Would give people more of a reason to buy two versions...

I'm interested in hearing about other people's experiences in getting a tattoo removed. Please dispense with the usual "I would never get a tattoo", "tattoos are dumb", etc, etc, ad naseum. If you want to express your opinion on tattoos, start another thread. I only want to hear tattoo removal stories.
I'm currently getting one removed (YAG laser). Due to a number of coverups and the size of the damn thing, I've been getting treatments for quite a while now. We're talking many years and lots of moolah. So I'm particularly wondering how long it took (or is taking) for other people to get their tattoos removed, and where they got (or are getting) it done.
Thanks in advance for any responses.
Did you do a Johnny Depp and get "Winona Forever" and now regret it? Cause he just changed it to "Wino Forever"...... heh.

I think a few other people have mentioned that too - I experience the same problem, but always on my Mini-DisplayPort monitor, not the Mini-DVI (I have the 2009 Mini).
I take it powering off/on the monitor is sufficient to bring it back to life? That typically works for me.
Duh, I've never tried that. I've always put the computer back to sleep and wake it up again, or change that monitors resolution, and change it back (if I can access that menu). I'll try to power cycle the monitor next time. Thanks!

If someone does take content from Wiki, we need to link it with the wikipedia license.
there's a template for this.

I need to beef up my Javascript skills (just realized how usefull it can be :) ).
Does anyone here know of some good web resource on javascript (language reference, list of functions, etc)?
Cheers,
D.
I had this site bookmarked for javascript (http://www.javascriptsearch.com/). Hope you find it useful but then again google it should help you to find more of it.

Would that be possibly that Apple is trying to patent as many as possible user interface/method so that no one can get anything closer to the REAL video iPod?

Baker Street predates me by a few years, but it seems like everyone I talk to can recall exactly what they were doing when they heard it for the first time... City To City was a great album.
He also wrote and sang a song on Mark Knopfler's Local Hero soundtrack, which is very good.
RIP Gerry. :(

21 Jun 2010 ... Optimized for the Retina Display on iPhone 4. ... The app has only crashed on me once and since it restored the article to right where I left off I still will give it 5 ... If it's crashing for you constantly then I bet other apps are ... I find that it is pretty much the easiest way to publish to.

Is it definitely in the headphone jack of your Mac?
Once plugged into the TV, select the necessary AV input (there's probably a little symbol next to the inputs on your TV to let you know which one to select - it won't be an HDMI input).
Ensure the red and white phonos on your TV aren't actually outputs.
Check the volume on your Mac is turned up.
What make is your TV.

is it just a matter of creating it on the computer, finding a host and going from there/ what makes a good host/ I want to be able to sell and reach lots of people. I have such a good product!
There are heaps of good hosts out there, for example TJR Networks (http://www.tjrnetworks.com) and Myacen (http://www.myacen.com), but there are also some pretty dodgy ones who take people's money and disappear overnight. The key things you should look for in a good host is uptime, server load, how easy it is to contact tech support and how long they have been around for. I would suggest avoiding any host that has been around for less than six months and definitely avoid those with super low prices as well as those that claim to offer "unlimited" space and bandwidth.

My local vodafone charges 100euros (was 200euros last year) to unlock any iphone & get it registered on apple's servers.
ANY iphone? Or any vodafone iphone?

Actually just read another post about 64-bit and 32-bit kernel and wondering if that is the root cause of my issue?
I will try the 32-bit when I get home later.
Incidentally, will I notice much difference between 64-bit and 32-bit?
Will update later :o)
Lol, welcome back. The only benefit to 64-bit is the ability to utilize ridiculous amounts of RAM. There are a couple minor processor benefits as well, but nothing worth noting for the the majority of purposes. HERE (http://lifehacker.com/5431284/the-lifehacker-guide-to-64+bit-vs-32+bit-operating-systems)is a good guide to the differences.
